Literacy

Literacy
The ability to decode (read) and encode (write) are learnt skills typically acquired over several years at school with continued development throughout a lifetime, however, for some children, reading and writing can be extremely challenging and this impacts access to all areas of the school curriculum as well as potentially impacting on self esteem. At littlebirds speech language and literacy we provide comprehensive assessment to help pinpoint areas of weakness and strengths in reading and spelling skills and deliver high quality evidence based instruction to build on reading and writing skills simultaneously. Please note, we do not offer diagnostic dyslexia assessments.

Intervention

Our intervention is based on the Sounds-Write program - an evidence based structured synthetic phonics program that has been well studied and is used extensively throughout the United Kingdom and Australia. We are able to offer individualised support, meaning we can go at your child’s pace and delve into specific areas that may need more support or development.
Our sessions are offered during school hours. We know this doesn't suit everyone and we try to offer sessions close to the beginning or end of the school day. However, learning to read and write can be really tiring for many students and we find it's best to see students when they are most available for learning.
